Berlin Alexanderplatz station is undergoing a comprehensive fire safety upgrade and modernisation programme while remaining fully operational. In addition to the restructuring of retail areas, the project includes the renewal of key technical systems, including fire detection and public address systems, smoke extraction and ventilation, sprinkler installations and an independent backup power supply. The scope is complemented by upgrades to lighting, wayfinding and technical infrastructure. A key element of the project is the construction of a rainwater retention basin beneath the basement level, requiring extensive foundation and waterproofing works.
