A roof system as a connecting element between the underground and suburban railway. As a link between the Charlottenburg underground and suburban railway stations, a new roof system was designed as an identity-forming element.
The supporting structure is based on a filigree steel construction that fulfils the functional requirements of durability and stability, while at the same time setting poetic accents. The structure incorporates abstract, amorphous forms that are orientated towards the silhouettes of the surrounding treetops. The park is continued in a roof landscape whose softly flowing contours are reminiscent of oversized leaves. The result is a light, floating construction that blends subtly into the urban green space and forms an atmospheric interface between city and nature. The simplified, flowing contours of the roof create a spatial structure that not only offers protection, but also provides orientation and restages the station entrance as an urban arrival point.
